Mesterskab

Mesterskab is a term used in Danish and Norwegian to denote either the status of being a master in a craft or the title of a championship won in a competition. In everyday use, the most common meaning is championship — the event or tournament that determines the national, regional, or organizational champion. The holder of the mesterskap is the reigning champion of that competition.

In crafts and trades, mesterskab describes mastership or mastery achieved through formal training and examination. Historically, a craftsman who earned the title of master could run a workshop, take on apprentices, and pass guild requirements.
