Messspitze

Messspitze is a mountain peak in the Eastern Alps, located in the Austrian state of Tyrol. The summit is commonly cited at approximately 2,500 meters, though exact elevations vary among maps and guides.

Geography and geology: The peak lies within a limestone-dominated section of the Alps, with steep faces and a rocky summit. Its geology is typical of the Northern Limestone Alps, featuring cliffs, scree slopes, and karst-like features. The surrounding terrain is characterized by alpine meadows at mid elevations and sparse vegetation at the higher slopes.

Name and history: The name Messspitze derives from German, with "-spitze" meaning peak; the "Mess-" element is of uncertain origin and may refer to historical surveying or local place names. Access and routes: The standard ascent starts from a nearby valley and follows established trails to a high saddle near the summit, where a short stretch of exposed scrambling may be required.
