Messdiensten, or measurement services, refers to organizations and units that provide measurement, testing, calibration, data collection, and related advisory services. They serve scientific institutions, industry, and public administrations by producing quantitative information used for product development, compliance, environmental monitoring, and facility management.

Key activities include planning measurement campaigns, performing measurements in laboratories or in the field, calibrating and validating instruments, processing and interpreting data, and delivering reports and certificates. Some Messdiensten operate as in-house units within larger companies, while others are independent laboratories or public agencies. Types range from calibration laboratories and metrology institutes to field measurement teams, environmental monitoring services, and utility meter reading or data-collection services.

Quality and traceability are central. Procedures are typically aligned with international and national standards, and many organizations seek accreditation under ISO/IEC 17025 for testing and calibration laboratories.
