Menyakitkan

Menyakitkan is an Indonesian word that functions as both a verb and an adjective, conveying the idea of causing pain or being painful. The term is formed from the root sakit with the prefix me- and the suffix -kan, which together indicate causation, yielding meanings such as “to cause pain” or “painful.” It can describe physical sensations as well as emotional or psychological experiences.

In usage, menyakitkan commonly describes something that inflicts distress or discomfort. For physical pain, one might say luka itu menyakitkan (the wound hurts). For emotional impact, phrases like kata-kata itu menyakitkan hati saya (those words hurt my feelings) are typical. The expression is versatile and can function as a predicate adjective (Pengalaman itu menyakitkan) or as a modifier in noun phrases (pengalaman yang menyakitkan).
