Meningiidid

Meningiidid is a family of insects belonging to the order Blattodea, which also includes cockroaches and termites. Members of this family are commonly known as sandpaper cockroaches or sand cockroaches due to their rough exoskeletons. They are found in arid and semi-arid regions of Africa and Asia.

Meningiidids are characterized by their flattened bodies, which allow them to burrow effectively in sand and loose soil. Their antennae are typically short and stout, and their legs are adapted for digging. The coloration of meningiidids varies, but many species exhibit sandy or mottled brown patterns that provide camouflage in their desert environments.

These insects are primarily detritivores, feeding on decaying organic matter, plant debris, and sometimes fungi found in the soil. They are generally nocturnal, emerging from their burrows at night to forage. Their life cycle involves incomplete metamorphosis, with nymphs resembling smaller versions of the adults.
