Menghai

Menghai County is an administrative division in southern Yunnan Province, People's Republic of China. It is part of the Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture. The county seat is Menghai Town.

Menghai is best known for Pu'er tea, a product with deep historical roots in the region. Tea hills and plantation areas, including the Nannuo Mountains, contribute to the county's economy and cultural identity. The Menghai Tea Factory, historically linked to the DaYi brand, is among the most famous Pu'er tea producers and has played a significant role in the development of the local tea industry.

The county is home to multiple ethnic groups, including Dai, Hani, Yi, and Han, reflecting the diverse composition of Xishuangbanna. Local culture is shaped by Dai traditions, festivals, music, and distinctive architecture, often intertwined with tea production and rainforest landscapes.

Geography and climate: Menghai lies in the tropical climate zone of southern Yunnan, with a warm, humid monsoon climate and abundant rainfall. The terrain includes low mountains and river valleys, and the Lancang (Mekong) River flows through the broader region nearby.
