Membranlagret

Membranlagret is a term often encountered in discussions related to cell biology and biochemistry, particularly when describing the structure and function of biological membranes. It refers to the fundamental bilayer structure that forms the basis of all cell membranes. This bilayer is composed primarily of phospholipid molecules, which are amphipathic, meaning they have both a hydrophilic (water-attracting) head and a hydrophobic (water-repelling) tail.

In an aqueous environment, phospholipids spontaneously arrange themselves into a bilayer with their hydrophilic heads facing outwards towards the water and their hydrophobic tails facing inwards, away from the water. This arrangement creates a stable barrier that separates the internal environment of a cell from its external surroundings, or divides different compartments within a cell.
