Membagi

Membagi is an Indonesian verb meaning to divide or to distribute. In everyday language it refers to separating a whole into parts, and in mathematics it denotes the operation of division. The noun form is pembagian. Related mathematical terms include pembagi (divisor), pembilang (numerator), and penyebut (denominator).

In arithmetic, division answers how many times the divisor fits into the dividend. It is written as a ÷ b or a : b, and the result is the quotient. If a equals b times q exactly, the division is exact; otherwise there may be a remainder r such that a = bq + r, with 0 ≤ r < |b|.

With integers, division can yield an integer quotient and possibly a remainder. With real numbers, division by a nonzero number yields a real number quotient. Fractions and decimals are common ways to express quotients, and different contexts may prefer different representations (for example, 7 ÷ 2 = 3.5 or 7/2 = 3 with remainder 1 when using integer division).

Beyond numbers, membagi also describes distributing resources or responsibilities among people, such as membagi tugas (dividing tasks) or membagi kue (sharing a cake). This broader sense emphasizes fairness or proportional allocation and is widely used in everyday Indonesian.
