Mehrzeilen

Mehrzeilen is a German term meaning "multi-line" and is used to describe content that extends over more than one line. In German-language technical writing, it commonly appears as an attribute of text blocks, strings, or data fields.

In computing, Mehrzeilen refers to constructs that span several lines. Examples include mehrzeilige Zeichenketten (multi-line strings) in programming languages, where a string continues across line breaks. Languages vary in syntax: some support triple-quoted or delimited strings, others use backslash line continuation, and some employ here documents for multi-line input. Mehrzeilige Kommentare exist in languages that allow block comments (for example / ... / in C-like languages) in addition to single-line comments.

In text processing and data formats, line breaks separate logical lines. Different platforms use different newline representations: LF, CRLF, or CR. Mehrzeilen in data interchange formats may be represented by multiline fields: YAML supports block scalars for large multi-line values; JSON requires escaping newlines within strings; CSV fields may include line breaks when properly quoted.

In typography and document layout, Mehrzeilen can refer to paragraphs that extend over several lines within a page. Word wrapping, hyphenation, and alignment influence how text forms multiple lines.
