Megalocerinae
Megalocerinae is a subfamily of bees within the family Megachilidae. This group is commonly known as the petal bees or, more specifically, as leafcutter bees when referring to the genus Megachile. Megalocerinae bees are characterized by their solitary nesting habits and their distinctive method of collecting pollen. Instead of using scopae on their hind legs like many other bee types, megalocerine bees possess specialized dense hairs on the underside of their abdomen, known as abdominal scopae, which they use to carry pollen.
The subfamily includes several genera, with Megachile being the most widespread and diverse. Other genera found
