Meeren

Meeren is a fictional coastal town in Eldoria, located on the western shore along the Meeren Gulf. The natural harbor supports fishing, local trade, and ferry services. The town covers about 48 square kilometers and had an estimated population of 14,600 in 2023.

Meeren's history began as a medieval fishing village and grew into a port town in the Early Modern period. The Old Town Quarter preserves centuries-old stone houses, while newer neighborhoods emerged in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Geography and climate: Meeren lies along a gentle coastline with a hilly hinterland. It has a temperate maritime climate with mild winters and cool summers, and annual rainfall around 700–900 millimeters.

Governance: The town is governed by a 10-member municipal council elected for four-year terms, led by a mayor. It is part of Eldoria's western region and provides local services through a small administration.

Economy and transport: Key activities are fishing, seafood processing, and maritime services, with growing tourism. The port connects by regional rail and bus services to the regional capital and neighboring towns.

Culture and landmarks: Meeren hosts the annual Fishermen’s Festival and preserves the Old Town Gate, Meeren Lighthouse, and a Maritime Museum. Local cuisine includes smoked fish and seaweed dishes.

Education and demographics: The town has two primary schools and one secondary school, with vocational programs at a local technical college. The population is diverse, including seasonal workers and long-term residents.
