Meerabai

Meerabai, also spelled Mirabai, was a 16th-century Hindu mystic poet and saint from Rajasthan, India. She is revered as a devotee of Lord Krishna. Born a princess in the state of Marwar, she was married to Prince Bhoj Raj of Mewar. However, her spiritual inclinations led her to dedicate her life to the worship of Krishna, composing devotional songs known as bhajans.

Meerabai's life is characterized by her intense devotion, often expressed through her poetry, which describes her longing for Krishna and her spiritual union with him. Her writings are a significant contribution to the Bhakti movement, a devotional tradition that flourished in India. She is believed to have traveled extensively, spreading her devotional message and her songs.

Despite her royal upbringing, Meerabai is celebrated for her humility and her rejection of worldly pleasures in favor of spiritual pursuits. Her poems often depict her as a milkmaid or a devoted lover, expressing her emotional connection to Krishna.
