Mediterraneanlike is an informal, descriptive adjective used to indicate characteristics that resemble those of the Mediterranean region. It is typically written as Mediterranean-like, but many uses omit the hyphen. The term appears across disciplines such as climate science, horticulture, architecture, and urban planning to denote similarity to Mediterranean climate, vegetation, or cultural patterns without claiming an official classification.

In climate terms, Mediterraneanlike regions tend toward mild, wet winters and hot, dry summers, with a pronounced dry season. While formal climate classifications use terms like the Köppen Csa and Csb types, Mediterraneanlike is a broader label that can apply to areas with comparable seasonal patterns even if other variables differ. Regions often described as Mediterraneanlike include parts of coastal California, central Chile, southwestern Australia, and the Western Cape of South Africa.

Vegetation and agriculture associated with Mediterraneanlike landscapes emphasize drought tolerance and water efficiency. Common elements include evergreen sclerophyll shrublands and crops such as olive, grapevines, and citrus. Landscape design favors drought-resilient planting, permeable soils, and irrigation strategies that conserve water. In architecture and urban design, Mediterraneanlike aesthetics favor outdoor living, shaded courtyards, light-colored or whitewashed walls, and materials chosen for heat management.

Because it is not a formal category, the label should be used cautiously in scientific contexts and as a practical shorthand in planning, gardening, or design projects that aim to evoke or accommodate Mediterranean-style conditions.
