Medianarchy

Medianarchy is a political system where power is divided equally among the middle third of the population. This means that the median citizen, who is neither the wealthiest nor the most influential, holds a significant amount of influence over the decision-making process.

The median, or mid-point, is often seen as the average or middle value in a dataset. In the context of medianarchy, this value is applied to the population as a whole, with the middle third of the citizens being the ruling class. This approach aims to prevent either the extremely wealthy or the majority from holding too much power.

Proponents of medianarchy believe that this system can lead to more democratic decision-making practices and prevent the concentration of wealth and power. By giving a voice to the average citizen, this system can help ensure that the interests of the many are represented.

Suppose a population of 100 citizens, where the wealth is distributed as follows: 10% are extremely wealthy, 40% are middle class, and 50% are struggling to get by. In a medianarchy system, the power would be divided among the 40% middle class, rather than the 10% super wealthy or the 50% struggling to get by. This could lead to more equitable decision-making and policy outcomes.

Critics argue that medianarchy is impractical, as it may be difficult to identify and measure the median in a large and diverse population. Additionally, this system may lead to gridlock, as the middle class may be more interested in preserving their own interests rather than working towards a common goal. Nonetheless, medianarchy remains an intriguing concept that challenges traditional notions of power and governance.
