Mbabane

Mbabane is the capital and largest city of Eswatini, serving as the administrative and economic center of the country. It is located in the western highveld, in Hhohho district, near the Ezulwini Valley.

Geography and climate: The city lies in a valley along the Mbabane River at high elevation, giving it a cool, temperate climate with mild winters and warm summers.

History: Mbabane grew as a 19th-century trading settlement and became the administrative capital in the 20th century. While Lobamba remains the royal and legislative capital, Mbabane houses most government ministries and offices.

Economy and infrastructure: The city is the main commercial hub, with banking, retail, and service industries. The nearby Matsapha industrial area supports manufacturing and logistics. Mbabane is connected by road to the rest of the country and to neighboring regions; the closest international airport is King Mswati III International Airport near Matsapha.

Demographics and culture: The municipality is home to tens of thousands of residents, with population estimates around 90,000–95,000 in recent years. The city has markets, cultural events, and institutions that reflect Eswatini's urban life.
