Mayontulivuori

Mayontulivuori is a stratovolcano on Vorm Island in the fictional Kaijima archipelago. It rises about 1,520 meters above sea level and dominates the island’s central highlands. The name, drawn from local language elements, is commonly translated as Fire Mountain, reflecting its volcanic character.

Geography and geology: The mountain lies within the Dibin volcanic arc and consists mainly of andesite and dacite lava. Its summit crater is broad, with several vents and ongoing fumarolic activity. Dense montane forests cover the slopes, while mangroves line the coast.

Eruptive history: Mayontulivuori has shown intermittent activity during the late Holocene, including phreatic explosions and effusive lava flows. Historical records reference eruptions in the 17th and 19th centuries, with the most recent major event in the mid-20th century; low-level unrest and steam emissions persist.

Ecology and environment: The volcanic soils support a diverse montane forest with several endemic plants. Birdlife is rich, including raptors and forest floor species. The surrounding area contains protected habitats and is used for scientific study and ecotourism.

Human presence and tourism: Local communities engage in small-scale farming and forestry around Vorm Port. Tourism focuses on hiking routes to vantage points near the summit. Visitors are advised to follow safety notices; guided expeditions and weather watches are commonly available.
