Maximkonekivääri
Maximkonekivääri is a historical heavy machine gun that revolutionized infantry combat. Designed by Sir Hiram Maxim in 1884, it was the first truly automatic machine gun. Its operation relied on the recoil of a fired round to eject the spent casing, chamber a new round, and cock the weapon, allowing for sustained fire. The Maxim gun typically used a water jacket to cool its barrel, preventing overheating during prolonged firing.
The Maximkonekivääri saw extensive service with numerous armies around the world, particularly during World War I.
Early models were often mounted on tripods or other stable platforms. Ammunition was fed from fabric belts.
