Maturzystów

Maturzystów is a Polish term referring to students who are about to take or have just taken their matura exam. The matura exam is a high school leaving examination in Poland, similar to A-levels in the UK or the Abitur in Germany. It is a crucial step for students as it determines their eligibility for university admission.

The matura exam typically consists of mandatory subjects such as Polish language, mathematics, and a foreign language. Students also have the option to choose several additional subjects to be tested on, depending on their intended field of study. The examination process usually takes place in May and the results are announced in early July.

The period leading up to the matura is often referred to as "sesja maturalna" (matura session). Students dedicate significant time to studying and preparing for these exams, often attending additional classes and using various study materials. The pressure associated with these exams can be considerable, as they represent the culmination of years of secondary education and a gateway to higher education.

After successfully passing the matura, students are awarded the "świadectwo dojrzałości" (certificate of maturity), which enables them to apply to universities and colleges. The term "maturzysta" (singular form) specifically denotes a male student who is a maturzystów, while "maturzystka" refers to a female student. The collective term "maturzystów" encompasses both male and female students undergoing this significant academic transition.
