Matterhorns

Matterhorns are a term used to describe a type of rare and unusual snow formation that can occur on high-altitude mountains. Also known as "stone pillars" or "ice pillars," matterhorns are created when layers of snow and ice are compressed over time, forming a tall, narrow column of rock-hard ice that can stretch towards the sky like a natural spire.

Matterhorns typically form in areas where the temperature is very cold and the snow does not melt quickly. They can also be created when snow is packed and compressed by wind, forming a tight, crystalline structure that is resistant to melting and erosion.
