Massiprotsendi, commonly known as mass percent or weight percent, is a way to express the concentration of a component in a mixture. It describes how much mass of a given component is present per unit mass of the entire mixture, expressed as a percentage. This measure is widely used in chemistry, materials science, and industry to specify formulations and compositions.

Definition and calculation: In a mixture or solution with solute mass m_solute and total mass m_total, mass percent w_i is defined as w_i = (m_solute / m_total) × 100%. The mass fraction w_i = m_solute / m_total is the non-percentage form, and mass percent is simply 100 times that fraction. Mass percent is often referred to as w/w (weight/weight) percent to emphasize mass-based calculation.

Relation to other concentration measures: Mass percent is distinct from mole percent, molarity, and mass-volume percent. It is dimensionless and independent of volume, relying solely on masses. It is especially common for solids and mixtures where mass additivity is straightforward. For many purposes, mass percent can be converted to mass fraction by dividing by 100.

Examples and applications: A mixture containing 12 g of solute in a total mass of 200 g has a mass percent of 6%. Mass percent is routinely used in product labeling, pharmaceutical formulations, food science, and materials engineering.
