Mansikkapuisto

Mansikkapuisto is a small forested park in Helsinki, Finland. It covers an area of approximately 2.5 hectares. The park is surrounded by residential buildings and offers a secluded retreat from the urban environment.

Mansikkapuisto's landscape features deciduous and coniferous trees, with Scot's pine and birch being prevalent species. The area is relatively flat, with a subtle rise in elevation near the northeastern boundary. The terrain's low-lying aspect contributes to the formation of damp conditions in the winter months.

The park's terrain host a variety of plant species including ferns, grasses, and mosses. Animal life is also observed, with small mammals, birds, and reptiles inhabiting the area. However, there are no designated walking or cycling paths, nor notable recreational facilities.

According to historical records, Mansikkapuisto has undergone changes in forest management since the early 20th century. Prior to 1920, the area was privately owned and inhabited by local residents. The forest underwent modifications to reduce the density of the tree cover, improving the overall health of individual trees.

Today, Mansikkapuisto remains uninfluenced by man-made alterations and continues to grow naturally. The park's vegetation forms a closed forest canopy, exhibiting a deciduous-coniferous successional process. The cumulative effect of natural regrowth over the years creates an increasingly dense and diverse ecosystem.
