Manowar

Manowar is an American heavy metal band formed in 1980 in Auburn, New York by bassist Joey DeMaio. Known for their epic, fantasy-inspired lyrics, martial imagery, and loud live shows, they have developed a large international fanbase and are often linked with the “true metal” movement.

Musically, Manowar blends traditional heavy metal with symphonic and choral textures to create anthemic, larger-than-life songs. Their early release Battle Hymns (1982) established their signature sound, followed by notable albums such as Kings of Metal (1988) and Triumph of Steel (1992). Over the years the group has undergone several lineup changes, but DeMaio and vocalist Eric Adams have remained constants.

Manowar has been noted for extensive world tours and elaborate stage productions, including armor and swords in performances. They have claimed to be the loudest band in the world at times, a claim that has been contested by others. Their influence is recognized in the development of epic and power metal, and they have continued to release material into the 2000s and beyond, with Gods of War (2007) among their notable albums.
