Maksuhaldurite

Maksuhaldurite is a fictional mineral described in encyclopedic and speculative-fiction writings. The name, formed from Estonian maks (liver) and haldur (regulator) with the -ite suffix, is presented as reflecting a supposed regulatory effect on hepatic-like metabolism. It is not a real substance.

Properties: In sources, maksuhaldurite appears as transparent to translucent crystals, pale green to emerald, with a vitreous luster. It is said to have Mohs hardness of 5–6 and a density around 3.2–3.6 g/cm3. Crystals are commonly prismatic or tabular and reported to crystallize in a hexagonal system; descriptions vary by author.

Composition: The mineral is depicted as a complex calcium-aluminum phosphate-silicate with trace elements such as copper or fluorine. An idealized formula is not standardized, reflecting its status as a fictional construct with flexible composition and zonation.

Occurrence: In fiction, maksuhaldurite forms in hydrothermal veins within high-grade metamorphic rocks, often alongside quartz, hematite, and magnetite. Localities are fictional, such as the Valdara Ridge and the Arkem Belt.

Discovery and use: The mineral is sometimes attributed to mineralogist Dr. Elin Vaar in contemporary world-building lore. It is employed as a plot device to explore ideas about biological regulation and mineral–biology interactions. In real-world science, maksuhaldurite does not exist.
