Maksapesäkkeet
Maksapesäkkeet, also known as hepatic abscesses, are collections of pus within the liver. They can be caused by bacterial, fungal, or parasitic infections. The most common route of infection is through the bloodstream from other parts of the body, such as the gastrointestinal tract or biliary system. Less commonly, direct spread from nearby infections or trauma to the liver can also lead to abscess formation.
Symptoms of a hepatic abscess can vary but often include fever, abdominal pain, jaundice, nausea, and vomiting.
Treatment for hepatic abscesses usually involves antibiotics to combat the infection and drainage of the pus.
