Majorpaarit

Majorpaarit is a fictional coastal municipality in the northern archipelago region of Nordmarka, in the state of Lumenia. It comprises the mainland town of Majorpaarit and several surrounding islands. The municipality has about 11,800 residents (2023) and is governed by a 15‑member council led by a mayor.

The area covers about 210 square kilometers of mixed coastal terrain, with rugged shorelines, pine forests, and several inlets. The maritime climate features cool summers, mild winters, and 700–900 mm of annual rainfall.

Settled in the medieval period, Majorpaarit gained municipal rights in 1847. It is part of Nordmarka and maintains a distinct local identity. The council is elected every four years; the mayor chairs meetings.

Historically dependent on fishing and forestry, today the economy emphasizes services, tourism, and light manufacturing such as ship repair and glassware. The population is primarily Nordari, with a small Kulian-speaking minority; education is bilingual in practice.

Notable sites include Majorpaarit Lighthouse and the Old Town Hall. The Marine Reserve of Fennestrand protects coastal habitats. The annual Major Juhla midsummer festival features markets, music, and traditional dancing; local cuisine centers on smoked herring, rye bread, and berries.
