Maiskogel

Maiskogel is a mountain in the Austrian state of Salzburg, located near the town of Kaprun and close to Zell am See. It is part of the Kitzbühel Alps, a subrange of the Northern Limestone Alps. The lower slopes are forested, with alpine terrain toward the summit, offering views over the surrounding valley and Lake Zell on clear days.

The Maiskogel area is a year‑round recreation site. In winter it forms part of the Kaprun ski region, with a cable car known as the Maiskogelbahn that connects Kaprun to the lower slopes for beginners and families. The Maiskogel area is also linked by lifts to the nearby Kitzsteinhorn glacier ski area, enabling access to glacier skiing as part of the Ski Alpin Card network.

In summer, the area serves hikers and walkers who explore the valley and higher trails. Trails provide opportunities to experience alpine flora and panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountains and the Zell am See region. The Maiskogel thus functions as a gateway between Kaprun and the broader alpine landscape, contributing to the tourism economy of the Zell am See district.
