Magrathean

Magrathea is a fictional planet featured in Douglas Adams's comedic science fiction series, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It is primarily known for being a planet-building industry, catering to the wealthiest and most eccentric individuals in the galaxy. The planet's primary export was custom-made luxury planets, designed to their clients' specifications. Its services included the construction of entire worlds, complete with continents, oceans, and even unique flora and fauna.

The planet was thought to be a myth for many years, having gone into a sort of economic hibernation after fulfilling its last major commission. This commission, commissioned by a group of hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional beings, was the creation of the planet Earth, which served as a giant organic computer designed to determine the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. The answer, it turned out, was 42, but the question itself was lost.

Magrathea's rediscovery by Arthur Dent and Ford Prefect is a pivotal moment in the story. They encounter the last surviving Magrathean, Slartibartfast, who explains the planet's history and its role in the creation of Earth. The planet's inhabitants, accustomed to a life of luxury and leisure, are awakened from their slumber to resume their planetary construction business. Magrathea represents a place of immense wealth, sophisticated technology, and cosmic absurdity.
