Magnetophon refers to a family of magnetic tape recorders developed in Germany in the 1930s and 1940s, produced under the brand name Magnetophon by AEG in collaboration with BASF. The system built on the magnetic tape concept devised by Fritz Pfleumer and represented the first practical means of recording high-fidelity audio on plastic tape coated with magnetic oxide.
