It lies along the Verdaran coast, bordered inland by the highlands of Cuirfall to the north and the Sunder Marsh to the west. The regional capital is Narthmere. The name Maculaarne derives from the ancient Macular tongue and is commonly interpreted as “speckled shore,” a reference to the region’s varied coastline of salt flats, mangrove bays, and rocky headlands.

Geography and climate: The landscape combines tidal wetlands, sheltered beaches, and forested plateaus. The climate is temperate maritime, with mild winters and cool summers; rainfall supports mangroves and oak forests. The region contains several protected marine reserves, notably the Glass Reef and the Sea Mirror Lagoon.

History and government: Maculaarne has long been a nexus for fishing communities. In the present setting it operates as an autonomous region within the Verdaran Confederation, with a locally elected assembly and a governor appointed to liaise with the central government.
