Maavärinute
Maavärinute, often referred to as earthquakes, are natural phenomena characterized by the sudden shaking of the Earth's surface. This shaking is typically caused by the release of energy in the Earth's crust, resulting in seismic waves that propagate outwards from the epicenter. The vast majority of earthquakes originate from tectonic plate movements. These plates, which make up the Earth's lithosphere, are in constant, slow motion. When stress builds up along the boundaries between these plates, particularly at fault lines, it can eventually overcome the friction holding them together. This sudden slip or rupture is what generates the seismic energy.
The intensity of a maavärinute is measured using various scales, the most common being the Richter scale
