Maanteesõidukiteks

Maanteesõidukiteks is the Estonian term for vehicles designed to operate on public roads and powered by an engine or motor. In legal and administrative contexts it is used to categorize motorized road vehicles that are subject to road traffic regulations. The term covers a wide range of vehicles that can normally be driven on public streets, including passenger cars, vans, trucks, buses, motorcycles and mopeds, as well as other multi- and two-wheeled motorized vehicles intended for road use.

Classification and scope can vary by context, but commonly maanteesõidukid are grouped by size and purpose into light motor vehicles (such as passenger cars and light commercial vehicles) and heavy motor vehicles (such as trucks and buses). Some categories, like two-wheeled motor vehicles and trailers, are treated as separate but associated classes within the broader framework of maanteesõidukid. Agricultural tractors and certain construction or special-purpose vehicles may also be considered maanteesõidukid when they are registered for road use, whereas those used only off-road or for farming may fall outside the category.

Regulatory context: maanteesõidukid must generally be registered with the relevant authority, display license plates, carry mandatory insurance, and meet safety, lighting, and emissions standards. They are subject to periodic technical inspections and to road traffic rules, including driver licensing requirements.
