Maanlandingen

Maanlandingen refer to the events where spacecraft have successfully landed on the surface of the Moon. The first successful uncrewed soft landing was achieved by the Soviet Union's Luna 9 probe in February 1966. This marked a significant milestone, demonstrating the ability to place a craft gently on the lunar surface without destruction.

Following this, the United States' Apollo program achieved the first crewed lunar landing with Apollo 11 on July 20, 1969. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the Moon. A total of six crewed Apollo missions successfully landed on the Moon between 1969 and 1972, with twelve astronauts walking on its surface. These missions collected lunar samples, conducted scientific experiments, and deployed instruments.

Since the Apollo era, several nations and space agencies have sent uncrewed missions to the Moon, including landers and rovers. China's Chang'e program has achieved multiple successful landings, with Chang'e 4 being the first to land on the far side of the Moon in January 2019. India, Japan, and Israel have also conducted lunar landing attempts. Future missions, both crewed and uncrewed, are planned by various entities with the aim of further scientific exploration, resource utilization, and potentially establishing a long-term human presence. The study of lunar geology, the Moon's origin and evolution, and its role in the solar system continue to drive these ambitious endeavors.
