M89
Messier 89 (M89) is a bright elliptical galaxy in the Virgo Cluster, located in the constellation Virgo. It is also known as NGC 4552. The galaxy was discovered by Charles Messier in 1781. Distance estimates place M89 at roughly 55–60 million light-years (about 17–18 megaparsecs) from Earth. M89 has an early-type morphology, commonly classified as E0–E1, with a smooth light distribution and little detectable star-forming gas. The stellar population is predominantly old.
As a member of the Virgo Cluster, M89 resides in a crowded environment where interactions and ram-pressure
In astronomical research, M89 serves as a nearby example of an early-type galaxy in a rich cluster,
