M6

M6 is a designation used for several different things in transportation, astronomy, and automotive engineering. The term appears as a road or motorway marker, a car model name, and the Messier catalog reference for a star cluster.

In the United Kingdom, the M6 motorway is a major north–south route that runs from the M1 near Rugby to the Scottish border at Gretna, near the M74. It serves the Midlands and North West England and provides connections to other major routes, linking urban areas and facilitating long-distance travel.

In Ireland, the M6 motorway links Galway on the west coast with Dublin in the east, via Athlone and Kinnegad. It forms part of the national corridor between the west and east coasts and improves through-traffic across the country.

The BMW M6 is the high-performance version of the 6 Series grand tourer. Produced in two generations, it was offered with a V8 engine and, in later models, a turbocharged V8. The M6 emphasized speed, handling, and refined performance, and it was produced until around 2018, after which the lineup evolved into other M performance models.

Messier 6, also known as M6, is an open star cluster in the southern constellation Scorpius. It is commonly referred to as the Butterfly Cluster and is visible with binoculars in suitable southern skies, as part of the Messier catalog compiled by Charles Messier in the 18th century.
