The most famous operatic work featuring the name Léonore is Ludwig van Beethoven's opera *Fidelio*, originally titled *Leonore oder Der Triumph der Liebe* (Leonore, or the Triumph of Love). The opera tells the story of a woman named Leonore who disguises herself as a male prison guard named Fidelio to rescue her husband from political imprisonment.
