Lämpöpussi

Lämpöpussi is a Finnish term that translates to "heat bag" or "hot pack." It refers to a reusable item designed to provide warmth. Typically, a lämpöpussi contains a solution, often water, and a metal disc. When the disc is bent or clicked, it initiates a chemical reaction, causing the solution to crystallize and release heat. This process is exothermic.

To reactivate a lämpöpussi, it is usually placed in boiling water for a specified period. The heat from the boiling water causes the crystallized solution to return to its liquid state. Once cooled, the lämpöpussi is ready to be used again.

Lämpöpussis are commonly used for therapeutic purposes, such as relieving muscle pain, menstrual cramps, or general discomfort from cold. They can also be used for recreational activities in cold weather to keep hands or feet warm. The duration of heat release varies depending on the size and type of lämpöpussi. Safety precautions should be observed, as the generated heat can be intense. It is important not to apply a hot pack directly to bare skin for extended periods to avoid burns.
