Lähteallikasse

Lähteallikasse is an Estonian term derived from lähteallikas, meaning "source" or "citation." The definitional form, lähteallikasse, is used when a source is being referenced in the dative case, commonly in sentences describing the action of citing or referencing. For example, “Tehakse viide lähteallikasse” translates to “A citation to the source is made.” The phrase is thus pivotal in academic and journalistic contexts, where referencing the original material is necessary for verification and scholarly integrity.

In Estonian style guidelines, references are usually listed at the end of a text in a dedicated section titled "Lähteallikad" (Sources). The grammatical construction “lähteallikasse” signals that a particular reference is ultimately located in that bibliography section. The usage is particularly common in texts that discuss how to properly cite materials, for instance: “Lisades täpseks mainimiseks viite lähteallikasse, tagatakse allikate jälgitavus.” This translates to “By adding a precise citation to the source, traceability is ensured.”

In bibliographic software, such as Zotero or EndNote, the concept of adding items to the “source list” corresponds directly to this Estonian phrasing. Researchers must therefore pay attention to both the grammatical case in sentences and the formatting of the final list.
