Lähikonttorit, a Finnish term translating to "neighborhood offices" or "local offices," refers to a concept of decentralized banking and service points. Traditionally, these were physical branches of banks located within residential areas, aiming to provide convenient access to banking services for local residents. The idea was to reduce the need for customers to travel to larger, central bank branches, thereby enhancing customer experience and fostering a sense of community presence for the financial institution.

These local offices typically offered a range of services, including account management, loan applications, cash withdrawals and deposits, and advisory services. Their accessibility was a key selling point, particularly for elderly customers or those with limited mobility. The physical presence of a bank in a neighborhood also served as a point of contact for local businesses and facilitated financial literacy initiatives.

In recent years, the concept of lähikonttorit has evolved significantly with the rise of digital banking. Many banks have reduced their physical branch networks, leading to a decline in the number of traditional lähikonttorit. However, the underlying principle of localized, accessible services is being reinterpreted through new models.
