Läderhuden

Läderhuden, also known as leatherhead, is a rare and distinctive disorder characterized by the presence of a thick, leathery, and often discolored scalp. This condition is typically associated with the underlying disease of trichilemmal cyst, which is a benign tumor that forms in the hair follicles. The exact cause of läderhuden is not fully understood, but it is believed to be related to the inflammation and scarring of the scalp.

The most common symptom of läderhuden is the appearance of a thick, leathery scalp, which can be accompanied by hair loss and inflammation. The affected area may also exhibit discoloration, ranging from red to brown or black. In some cases, the condition can lead to the formation of small, raised bumps or cysts on the scalp.

There is no specific test to confirm the diagnosis, but imaging studies such as ultrasound or MRI may be used to visualize the underlying trichilemmal cysts.
