Luottomuuntotekijöitä, known in English as credit conversion factors (CCFs), are a crucial element in credit risk management and regulatory capital calculations, particularly within the Basel Accords framework. They represent the estimated proportion of a credit exposure that is likely to be lost in the event of default by the borrower. In essence, CCFs translate off-balance sheet items or commitments, which do not represent a direct present exposure but could become one in the future, into a quantifiable on-balance sheet equivalent.
These factors are applied to non-funded exposures such as loan commitments, guarantees, and letters of credit.
