Luminalales

Luminalales is a proposed order of flowering plants, but its taxonomic status remains uncertain and is not universally accepted by botanists. The name Luminalales refers to a group of families that were historically placed together based on morphological characteristics. These families often shared features such as herbaceous or shrubby habit, specific floral structures, and certain fruit types.

The core of Luminalales typically included families like Luminaleaceae, which was itself a conceptual grouping rather than a formally established family. Researchers who have explored this potential order have often focused on phylogenetic analysis, using genetic data to understand the evolutionary relationships between different plant groups. These studies have sometimes suggested a monophyletic origin for a subset of the families traditionally considered within Luminalales, while other analyses have indicated that the proposed order may not be a natural grouping.

Current major taxonomic systems, such as the Angiosperm Phylogeny Group (APG) classifications, do not recognize Luminalales as a distinct order. Instead, the families that were once considered part of Luminalales are often distributed among other established orders or are part of larger, more inclusive clades.
