Lovech

Lovech is a town in northern Bulgaria, serving as the administrative center of Lovech Province. The town is situated in the western part of the Valley of the Roses, approximately 155 kilometers northwest of the national capital Sofia. Its geographic location is characterized by highlands and hills, with dominant elevations ranging from 600 to 850 meters above sea level.

The town's strategic position along the Balkan Mountains and its proximity to the Doughovo Plateau have made Lovech an important center for trade and commerce since the Middle Ages. Excavations in the area have revealed the remains of a ancient Thracian settlement, evidence of which dates back to the 2nd century BC.

Lovech is often referred to as the "Little Vienna" due to its charming and eclectic architecture, which includes examples of renaissance, baroque and neoclassical styles. Many of the town's original buildings, constructed during the Ottoman era, still stand today, adding to its romantic and picturesque atmosphere. The proximity of the town to the natural springs of the nearby resorts of Etropole and Gabrovo results in a significant influx of tourists during the summer.

The town is divided into three quarters, of which the sity State of Lovech is the dominant center. Lovech is also known for its production of wine and the local rose. The town's economy lies primarily in the agriculture and floriculture sectors, taking advantage of its climate suitable for rose cultivation and vineyards.
