Loppukontrolli

Loppukontrolli, or final control, is the final stage in a project or production process in Finnish practice. It aims to confirm that all contract deliverables have been completed, that requirements and standards are met, and that the project is ready for handover to the customer or for operation.

The purpose of loppukontrolli is to reduce risk by verifying quality, safety, performance, and compliance. It also ensures that necessary documentation, such as manuals, as-built drawings, maintenance plans, and warranty information, is complete and accessible for future use. The process typically involves coordinating stakeholders from the client and contractor sides, quality assurance personnel, and, if needed, regulatory authorities.

Typical activities during loppukontrolli include reviewing the project against the contract and technical specifications, conducting or witnessing functional and safety tests, performing commissioning, inspecting workmanship and installations on site, and verifying that all non-conformities have been addressed. It may also encompass training for end users and the handover of operation and maintenance responsibilities. Documentation is checked for completeness, and any remaining issues are logged with clear responsibilities and deadlines.

Outputs of the final control stage usually consist of a formal acceptance or handover certificate, a final report detailing the results and any open items, and the closure of non-conformity records. Loppukontrolli is commonly required in construction, industrial installations, and large IT or energy projects, and serves as a bridge between completion and ongoing operation.
