Logistikken

Logistikken, or logistics, refers to the planning, implementation, and control of the movement and storage of goods, services, and related information from origin to consumption in order to meet customer requirements. It encompasses the coordination of inbound flows (procurement, materials handling), outbound flows (distribution to customers), and internal flows, together with packaging, loading, and risk management.

Key activities include transportation management (routing, carrier selection, freight optimization), warehousing and inventory control, order fulfillment and reverse logistics, packaging, and security. Information systems such as enterprise resource planning (ERP), warehouse management systems (WMS), and transportation management systems (TMS) support these activities by providing real-time visibility, planning, and optimization.

Logistikken is a core component of supply chain management, but it is distinct in its primary focus on the physical movement and storage of goods. Supply chain management covers broader aspects such as procurement, supplier relationships, production planning, and product design, with logistikken serving as the operational backbone for the flow of materials and products.

Historically rooted in military operations, modern logistics developed during industrialization and expanded with globalization and information technology. Trends today include a focus on efficiency, resilience, sustainability, and last-mile delivery innovations driven by e-commerce and changing consumer expectations.
