Loetelusse

Loetelusse is a small commune located in the eastern part of France, within the Jura department of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. Covering an area of approximately 4.2 square kilometres, it is situated amid rolling hills and forested terrain, with the commune's elevation ranging from 312 to 521 metres above sea level. The local landscape is characterised by mixed forests and agricultural fields, largely devoted to dairy farming and cider production, which are traditional economic activities in the area.

The commune lies a short distance south of the larger town of Lons-le-Saunier, and is accessible via departmental roads that connect to the A39 motorway, providing convenient links to Besançon and Saint-Claude. Across its borders are the communes of Andrézieux, Lannay, and Saint-Étienne en Sologne.

Historical records indicate that the first settlement in the region dates back to the Roman era, with archaeological traces of a small vicus found near the local river. The modern village emerged during the Middle Ages, when a fortified manor house was established. Over the centuries, Loetelusse has maintained a predominantly rural character, with local governance administered by a mayor and municipal council, reflecting the standard administrative structure of French communes. Population data from the French Institut national de la statistique et des études économiques (INSEE) shows that the commune's population has remained relatively stable, hovering around 320 inhabitants in recent censuses.
