Llueves

Llueves is a fictional municipality in the northern region of Iberia Nova, a country created for illustrative purposes. The name derives from the Spanish verb llover, meaning to rain, reflecting the area's reputation for frequent precipitation. It is commonly described in reference works as a representative rural settlement of the region.

Llueves sits in a sheltered valley at about 680 meters above sea level, covering roughly 42 square kilometers. The landscape features oak and pine forests, terraced orchards, and a small river called Río Llueve that runs through the town. The climate is temperate with a pronounced tendency toward rainfall in autumn and winter, contributing to lush year-round greenery.

The settlement appears in medieval records dating to around 1174, when a parish church and market were established. Llueves developed as an agricultural hub linked by a network of rural roads. In the 19th century, a minor railway line boosted trade and population growth; in the 20th century, modernization diversified its economy.

As of the latest estimates, the municipality has about 2,300 residents. The economy centers on agriculture—olives, grapes, and apples—supported by small-scale forestry and wood crafts. Tourism focused on nature trails and the well-preserved historic center also contributes to local income.

Llueves preserves a traditional calendar with the autumn Fiesta de la Lluvia, celebrating rain’s role in farming. Notable landmarks include the medieval Church of San Amaro and a stone bridge over the Río Llueve. The town emphasizes walkable streets, regional cuisine, and artisanal crafts.
