Llisyysjohdin, also known as the lymphatic system, is a vital part of the human body's immune system. It consists of a network of vessels, nodes, and organs that transport lymph, a clear fluid that contains white blood cells, throughout the body. The lymphatic system plays a crucial role in maintaining fluid balance, absorbing excess fluid from tissues, and transporting immune cells to fight infections.

The lymphatic system begins with tiny vessels called initial lymphatics, which drain into larger vessels called lymphatic vessels. These vessels carry lymph to lymph nodes, which are small, bean-shaped organs that filter out harmful substances and pathogens. From the lymph nodes, lymph is collected by larger vessels called lymphatic trunks, which eventually drain into the bloodstream through the thoracic duct.

The lymphatic system is also responsible for producing and storing immune cells, including lymphocytes, which are essential for the body's defense against infections. Additionally, the lymphatic system plays a role in the absorption of fats and fat-soluble vitamins from the digestive system.

Diseases and conditions that affect the lymphatic system include lymphedema, a condition characterized by swelling due to the buildup of lymph fluid, and lymphangitis, an inflammation of the lymphatic vessels. The lymphatic system is also closely linked to the circulatory system, and disruptions in one can affect the other.
