Llandyrnog

Llandyrnog is a small village and community in Denbighshire, north Wales, situated approximately five kilometres north‑west of Ruthin. The locality lies along the B4352 road and is surrounded by gently rolling farmland and patches of woodland in the eastern Clwydian Range. According to the 2011 census the population of the community was about 600 residents, reflecting its rural and close‑knit character.

The village’s history is closely linked to its parish church of St. Mary the Virgin, a Grade II* listed building dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. The church’s tower, rebuilt in the early 16th century, is a prominent landmark on the surrounding hills. Llandyrnog Hall, a 17th‑century manor house now divided into private residences, stands near the church and is another key historic site. The area was part of the larger Llandyrnog estate and once hosted a manor court that served local tenants.

Llandyrnog once had a railway station on the former Denbigh Railway line; the station opened in the late 19th century and closed to passengers in 1950. The station’s remaining brick platform is now a historical curiosity for walkers. In modern times the village supports a primary school and a small community shop, and hosts a community centre that provides local events and voluntary activities. The surrounding landscape offers walking routes within the Clwydian Range, making Llandyrnog a gateway to the natural heritage of north Wales.
