Lizisfiziológiában refers to the study of lysis in physiology. Lysis, in a biological context, describes the breaking down or dissolution of a cell. This process can occur naturally as part of cellular function or be induced by external factors.

Physiological lysis is a normal and often essential biological event. For instance, red blood cells undergo a process called hemolysis, where they are broken down in the spleen and liver after reaching the end of their lifespan. This breakdown allows for the recycling of their components, such as iron. In other physiological contexts, lysis can be involved in programmed cell death, known as apoptosis, where cells self-destruct in a controlled manner to maintain tissue health or eliminate damaged cells.

Pathological lysis, on the other hand, occurs due to disease or injury. For example, in certain autoimmune diseases, the body's immune system may mistakenly target and lyse healthy cells. Infections can also lead to cell lysis; some bacteria produce toxins that rupture host cells, and viruses hijack cellular machinery, often resulting in the lysis of the infected cell to release new viral particles.
