Liverregistered

Liverregistered refers to the process of registering a boat or ship with the coastguard or local maritime authority, indicating that the vessel is documented as a commercial or recreational vessel under the Coast Guard and vessel documentation regulations. The registration process, also known as documentation, typically involves providing proof of ownership, meeting size and capacity requirements, and paying fees. This registration is often separated into two distinct categories: Coast Guard documentation or state registration, depending on the jurisdiction.

In the United States, boats over 5 net tons and registered as recreational vessels are required to undergo the Coast Guard documentation registration process. Documentation is available for boats in all three categories: recreational, commercial, and fishing. All documentable vessels must have a unique identification number consisting of a series of numbers and letters assigned by the U.S. Coast Guard.

State registration, on the other hand, is a separate process managed by the state governments where the boat will be moored or operated. State registration typically applies to boats under 5 net tons, typically sailboats and kayaks, and have the authority to impose additional taxes and fees.

Benefits of Coast Guard documentation registration include avoiding state titles and liens, ensuring minimal state taxes, and exemption from future tax liabilities. This type of registration provides the owner with broader protections, rights, and freedoms when exercising ownership. By contrast, state registration does not provide these same benefits within the jurisdiction where the state registration was obtained.
